The study of court cultures enables a closer look at the leading social and political group in a society, its impact on cultural production and its interaction with society at large. This conference aims to advance the study of court cultures in the middle ages by applying the lens of mobility studies, and by expanding the frame of investigation to encompass court cultures from the Latin West to Asia, with particular emphasis on Byzantium as the hinge between the two.

Sponsor: The Wittgenstein-Prize Project ‘Mobility, Microstructures and Personal Agency’ of the FWF (Austrian National Research Foundation), in collaboration with the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) and University of Vienna.
