Vortrag

How can we best articulate the meaning of development when Palestinians in Palestine have no control over borders, movement within their own communities, natural resources, land zoning, or economic policy tools due to decades of Israeli rule? How can we include a Palestinian Diaspora in Jordan and Lebanon in our project? Towards what does development in a regional context of conflict and war strive?

These are some of the main questions on which we work in our APPEAR-project Rooting Development in the Palestinian Context. After more than 20 years of the Oslo process and its dominant development model, the multiple crises in Palestine lend urgency to the exploration of alternatives to the status quo. In light of crisis-laden development in the occupied territories, the wars on Gaza, the unresolved issue of Palestinian refugees and the repercussions of the war in Syria, we deem it necessary to follow an integrated approach combining various social dynamics within and outside of Palestine. What this includes and how we deal with the challenges lying ahead will be discussed in our lecture.
