ISOR Colloquium

"Visual Tools for Decision Making"

Presentation: Torsten Möller (University Vienna)

Sky Lounge OMP1, 12th Floor
Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz 1, 1090 Vienna

Vortrag

This talk will briefly give an introduction to the academic field of visualization and its principles.

It will highlight the power of visual supported analysis of computational simulations. It will first give a detailed example from the own work -- a tool for fisheries managers (Vismon). Based on an analysis of numerous other tools the authors have created as well as a review of 21 different application scenarios, they will make the case that visual support greatly facilitates the understanding of these complex systems leading to faster workflows and a better decision process. Some of the challenges to be tackled include the communication of uncertainty as well as the consideration of multiple objectives.
