SERGEY ZOTCHEV
is Professor of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Vienna (since September 2015).
Sergey Zotchev‘s major field of expertise is molecular genetics of bacteria, with the focus on genetics and biochemistry of antibiotic biosynthesis. He obtained his PhD at the Research Institute for Genetics and Selection of Industrial Microorganisms (Moscow, Russia) in 1991. He did his postdoctoral studies in Germany (University of Osnabrück), USA (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Sweden (Karolinska Institute), and Norway (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU). In 2001-2015 Sergey held a Faculty position (Associate, then full Professor) at the Department of Biotechnology, NTNU (Trondheim, Norway). In 2011-2012 he was a visiting Professor at the University of Berkeley (Berkeley, USA). Since September 2015 Sergey Zotchev is appointed as a full Professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, University of Vienna (Austria).
Research areas:
Bioprospecting for bioactive compounds produced by bacteria and fungi, comparative bacterial genomics, secondary metabolite biosynthesis, metabolic engineering and synthetic biology.
